Tubal ligation and salpingectomy are two surgical procedures aimed at preventing pregnancy, but they accomplish this in different ways.
Tubal Ligation: This procedure involves blocking or sealing the fallopian tubes. This blockage prevents eggs from traveling from the ovaries to the uterus, thereby stopping fertilization.
Salpingectomy: Unlike tubal ligation, salpingectomy is the removal of the fallopian tubes entirely. With the tubes removed, eggs cannot reach the uterus, which also prevents fertilization.
Both methods are often used for permanent sterilization, meaning they are intended for individuals who do not wish to become pregnant again. Understanding the differences in these procedures can help you choose what might be best for your family planning needs.
Remember to consult with a healthcare provider to discuss your options and find the right method for you.
