How should I think about the different options for treating my fibroids?
BY DR. BROOKE WINNERWhen considering treatment options for your Fibroids, it’s important to focus on two main factors: your symptoms and your fertility goals.
Symptoms: Fibroids can cause heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding and pain. Pain is often linked to larger fibroids (generally five centimeters or more) but can also arise from smaller fibroids that are changing or degenerating.
Fertility Goals: Understanding your desire to become pregnant will influence your treatment choices. For instance, a hysterectomy can completely remove the uterus along with the fibroids, offering a cure for Fibroids. It is essential to note, however, that while your ovaries can remain intact (meaning you won’t go through menopause), a hysterectomy means you will not be able to conceive children afterward.
By considering both your symptoms and your personal goals regarding pregnancy, you can make a more informed decision about the various treatment options for managing your Fibroids.
