How do fibroids form?

BY DR. BROOKE WINNER

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that form in the muscular wall of the uterus, and they are quite common among women of reproductive age.

Here’s a brief overview of how fibroids form:

  • Fibroids begin from a single cell, growing into a tumor over time.

  • The exact reason why fibroids develop is still unclear, and researchers continue to investigate this condition.

  • There may be a genetic factor involved in the growth of fibroids.

  • Some studies suggest that low vitamin D levels and a higher body mass index (BMI) could be linked to fibroid development, but it is uncertain whether they actually cause fibroids.

Because of the lack of concrete data and research, understanding fibroids and their origins remains a complex and ongoing journey for both medical professionals and patients.
